We're a small, friendly team who work exceptionally hard to create yearbooks for tens of thousands of customers across the UK and beyond every year.

We're located at Tempest Photography head office, just off of the Lelant roundabout, St Ives, Cornwall. Tempest Photography is an innovative, growing business that has been offering the best in school photography for over 80 years. We have a real commitment to staff, we are part of the Healthy Workplace Initiative and you can use lunch breaks to get your steps up as you wonder around the lake at the Tempest grounds. We have an onsite canteen, which offers subsidised snacks.

Things are very relaxed here with few formalities, but we only employ the best.

Graphic Designer


- Full-time (37.5h per week, 8.15am-4.15pm Monday to Friday)

We are the UK-based leader in bespoke yearbook design and publishing, offering yearbook styles in hardback and paperback yearbooks designed via our collaborative editor. Founded in 2002 and operating from Cornwall, we work with schools, colleges, universities, and clubs across the UK and beyond.

Our platform is collaborative and intuitive. Users can start from scratch straight away or choose from our pre-made templates, and customise every element such as layouts, profiles, collages, awards, and upload their own designs. This design role is a core part of the process and the designer works with every school to create, update, edit and amend the cover for each of our customers. Creating new designs each year, new templates, supporting with our internal online and offline marketing.

We are a small, close-knit team made up of customer support experts, a developer and this role the designer.

You'll be primarily using Photoshop to design custom covers and other artwork for school and university yearbooks in a fast paced environment during our seasonal busy period. You'll be working in our seasonal design team, located near the coast within the Tempest grounds near the beautiful St Ives. How you get on and fit in with the rest of the team is hugely important to us.

This is a hybrid role, with 2 x days in the office and the rest of the week working from home. We are a small team, working with 100's schools across the UK - looking for a designer that can join our team that is confident, reliable and able to work to production based deadlines.

Your main duties will be...

  • Creating stunning yearbook covers for individual customers based on their thoughts and ideas, via our online request system
  • You are responsible for your own time management and managing the customer workflow of requests based on yearbook delivery deadline date. Our online system is designed to support you and the customer through the process as well as the customer support team
  • You will be liaising with customers via online messages to help them get the very best covers both from design point of view but also production - creating based on the customers book specifications to ensure printing is optimal
  • Out of our core season you will be creating custom artwork for customers, designs for our marketing materials, for web (if experienced) and involved in the evolution of the AYB brand

You will be...

  • Highly skilled with Photoshop
  • Able to quickly work with existing templates to create custom designs
  • At least reasonably comfortable working with existing Illustrator files
  • Excellent with your attention to detail
  • Edit customer provided photos to optimise for cover production
  • Strong with IT skills and capable of learning new systems quickly and being able to manage your workflow across multiple windows and tabs
  • Be confident in your decisions and able to manage own workload
  • Social media graphics and content creation
  • Print and digital advertising materials
  • Marketing materials (brochures, flyers)

Nice-to-Have Web Skills:

  • Basic web design principles
  • Landing page design
  • Simple website assets

Experience with scripts not required but helpful.
